White Sox starter James Shields has a fly-ball rate of 44.5% this season, which is in line with the 43.5% rate he posted in 2017. The difference is that last year Shields had a HR/FB rate of 17.4%. This year that number is down to 8.2%. The ball flies at Guaranteed Rate Field in the summer months, and with temperatures in the low 90s and a strong wind blowing toward left field, today is likely the day Shields' home run luck runs out.
Memphis finally won a game, but my computer projections don't see the Grizzlies starting a two-game streak. The Nets are on a 5-2 ATS run and cover the spread in nearly two-thirds of simulations in this one, a strong number that I'll side with.
Even without big man Isaac Haas, my computer projects a semi-comfortable Boilermakers victory. Purdue wins straight-up in nearly 70 percent of the simulations. I'll go the money line route instead of giving up any points, though, just in case.
Each team has been impressive against the spread, with Clemson hitting on four in a row and Kansas seven of 10. But this matchup shows too many advantages for the Jayhawks to take the points. My simulations project a six-point win, but free throws may stretch it. Lay the points on the No. 1 seed.
The Wildcats lead the nation with 87 points per game, and I don't see the Mountaineers slowing them down. West Virginia doesn't defend 3-pointers particularly well -- a trait that will haunt the Mountaineers on Friday night. In my simulations, Villanova wins by double digits and covers 64 percent of the time.
